Lipoplasty - Liposuction or Liposculpture

Have diet and exercise failed to help remove unsightly bulges?  Want to look better and feel better about your shape?  If your answer to these questions is "yes", then Liposuction or Liposculpture could be for you.

Lipoplasty - commonly known as Liposuction or Liposculpture - involves inserting a suction tube (or canula) through a tiny incision into the fatty layer.  Fat cells are sucked out through the tube: reshaping bulges into more attractive contours.  The number of incisions required depends on the location and size of the bulges.

Up to 5 litres of fat may be removed at time.  Once removed, fat cells should not be recreated  - new fat cells stop being created after puberty (but remaining fat cells will still grow should you gain weight).

Lipoplasty works best for people with firm elastic skin, in good heath and who have tried to eliminate bulges through exercise and diet.  Lipoplasty can help reduce distinct areas of localised fat where excess fat has accumulated such as: inner and outer thighs, buttocks, hips abdomen and others.  It may be possible to have fat cells transferred to other areas such as lips or cheeks.  It may be effective to combine Liposuction with a tummy tuck.

Depending on the procedure your specialist uses, the operation is performed under a local or a general anaesthetic.  It can be performed as a day care procedure or you can stall in hospital for a day or two if necessary.

Lipoplasty is a commonly performed and generally safe surgical procedure if performed by a suitably qualified specialist.  You should discuss with your specialist what you are hoping to gain from the operation and be sure know what you can reasonably expect and that you understand the risks.  There is usually a high level of patient satisfaction associated with liposuction procedures.

You should look for a specialist cosmetic surgeon operating at a suitable clinic or hospital and check they have appropriate qualifications and can provide evidence of successful procedures.
